The Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), are Scotland’s largest and oldest independent marine science organisation, delivering marine science for a productive and sustainably managed marine environment through research, education and enterprise.
Based near Oban on the Scottish west coast, SAMS’ marine research and teaching portfolio is diverse in topic and discipline, and global in outlook and operation. SAMS research focuses on developing a better understanding of ocean processes (ocean currents, biogeochemical cycles, ecosystem function and Arctic science), predicting how our coasts are changing (climate change, conservation, society and the sea and industrial impacts) and developing the blue economy (sea farming, marine biotechnology, fisheries and ocean energy).
A partner in the University of the Highlands and Islands, SAMS delivers full-time undergraduate and postgraduate education in marine science and operates a specialist marine consultancy subsidiary, SRSL. For more information please visit https://www.sams.ac.uk
